A dog has brought a pound of marijuana to its owner who lives in the US state of Mississippi. The man gave the discovered bag of weed to Jones County police, the Associated Press reported on Thursday, March 31.

According to the owner of the animal, at first he thought the bag his dog found was filled with garbage. After some time, the American decided to smell it and saw that it contained a psychoactive drug.

It’s still unknown where and how the dog retrieved the bag. Local law enforcement agencies have started an investigation of the incident.

On February 26, 2015, the government allowed storing small quantities of marijuana at home. The drug was allowed to use for some recreational purposes, that is for pleasure or restoration of normal state of health. At the same time, selling and smoking cannabis in public places are still banned.

Marijuana also was partially legalized in such states as Alaska, Colorado, and Oregon. Other 21 states are to allow the use of the drug for medical purposes. Meanwhile, smoking cannabis is still illegal at the federal level.
