The conflict that started in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014 has already killed about 10 thousand people, including more than 2.7 thousand militants of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says.
"About 10 thousand people died. More than 2.7 thousand Ukrainian soldiers have been killed by means of Russian support," he said during the forum in the US Congress building (the Capitol).
According to the Ukrainian head of state, the number of victims of the conflict exceeds the number of US military casualties in Afghanistan for the past 15 years.
"1.8 million citizens lost their homes in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and moved to other Ukrainian regions. 7% of Ukrainian territory is invaded. 20% of Ukrainian economy has been seized or destroyed," Poroshenko noted.
