Russian tactical missile complex Iskander-M was revealed at Hmeymim airbase in Syria. The complex accidentally fell into the camera’s view when TV channel Zvezda was doing a report there.
In the video, which was dedicated to the withdrawal of the Russian army from Syria, one can notice a launcher 9P78-1 of a missile system Iskander-M. It was revealed at the airbase during An-124’s takeoff in the fifth minute of the video.
However, there’s no official information in relation to Iskander’s deployment in Syria.
Iskander-M was put at the Russian army’s disposal in 2006. According to some reports, Russia has 72 rocket launchers.
The ballistic missile system can hit various targets, including military equipment, command points, control positions, and different fortifications.
Furthermore, Iskander can be used to deliver nuclear weapons to a distance of up to 500 kilometers. It is still unknown whether the Syrian Iskanders are equipped with nuclear warheads or not.
In addition, it should be noted that the complex belongs to a type of offensive weapons and is used to destroy enemy targets at a considerable depth with respect to a front line. Thus, if the missile is used directly, it will hit positions of some neighboring countries, such as Turkey.
