According to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond, Putin doesn’t deserve praise for withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria, since by and large he should keep out of this country, the 112.ua reports.
To praise Putin for doing this is like to praise a husband for stopping beating his wife, Hammond claims.
"Someone goes to another country and starts bombing civilians, destroying schools and hospitals," Hammond said, addressing the House of Commons in London.
“If – and this still is a big if – after the five months they decide that they have done enough, let's not praise them too much. It's a bit like, 'Has he stopped beating his wife?”
Deployment of Putin's army in Syria is illegal and everyone should oppose to their presence there, Hammond says.
Bloomberg agency, which interviewed him on this occasion, has noted that the comment could negatively influence Russia-UK relations.
